ARTIST STATEMENT
My work spans drawing, textile, and sound, sometimes extending into immersive installations, with drawing being the core of my practice. My artistic practice delves into the interconnections of the human and nonhuman world, reflecting on the relationship of micro and macro, environment and my personal identity through an engagement with the natural world. My process is guided by my fascination towards the geological forms and biological remains and an interest in nature’s transformative forces—such as sedimentation, erosion, and growth. I translate these phenomena into my art through layering, repetition, gestural mark-making, and the recording of traces. My works are often abstract and organic, embracing the language of decay and trace. Employing a process-oriented approach, I often reflect on the agency and vitality of the nonhuman world and the sensorial relationships formed with it. Textile extends beyond its function as a drawing surface serving as a tangible reminder of home, intertwining with my cultural identity and familial connections. With an embodied and phenomenological approach, marked by an attentiveness to the act of drawing, I also reflect on tensions between the ephemerality and the desire to preserve.
